Designing Spaces That Feel Like You

The Art of Creating Beautiful, Functional Interiors With Personality, Purpose, and a Little NyRai Boldness

One thing I’m going to do is smile.

Not because every design project is easy. Not because every space comes together without challenges. But because I’m still just as excited about creating spaces today as I was when this journey began. 🖤

That excitement is rooted in something deeper than decorating.

When I walk into a room, I’m not simply asking, “How can I make this prettier?”

I’m asking better questions.

What Design Problems Need to Be Solved?

A beautiful room that doesn’t function for the people living or working in it isn’t successful design.

Every space has its challenges—awkward layouts, limited storage, competing needs, outdated finishes, or simply a lack of identity. My job is to identify those challenges and turn them into opportunities.

Great design isn't about hiding what doesn't work.

It’s about reimagining what could.

How Should This Space Feel?

Design is emotional.

Color, lighting, texture, scale, materials, and furniture all influence how we experience a space.

A room can feel calm and restorative, energetic and playful, sophisticated and collected, or bold and unapologetic.

The feeling matters just as much as the look.

Because when you walk through the door at the end of a long day, your space should evoke something.

It should make you feel something.

How Does My Client Need the Space to Function?

Before selecting a beautiful sofa or obsessing over a paint color, I want to understand how the space actually lives.

Who uses it?

How do they move through it?

What do they need more of?

What isn't working?

What would make everyday life easier?

Good design should support the way you live and work—not force you to adapt to the room.

What Can We Create That Feels Uniquely Theirs?

This is where the magic happens.

I don't want my clients walking into a space that looks like it came straight out of a showroom or a Pinterest board.

Inspiration is wonderful, but your home or business should ultimately tell your story.

That might mean unexpected color.

A dramatic piece of art.

Layered textures.

A statement light fixture.

A mix of old and new.

Or simply one unforgettable detail that makes the entire room feel personal.

And ultimately, I'm always chasing one reaction:

“THIS feels like me. I never want to leave.”

That, to me, is the difference between simply decorating a room and intentionally designing an experience.

A Little Vision. A Lot of Personality.

I still believe your home is allowed to have PERSONALITY.

Actually, I think it should.

Your space doesn't have to look like everyone else's.

It doesn't have to follow every trend.

And it certainly doesn't have to apologize for being bold.

Whether I'm designing a residence, hospitality environment, or commercial space, my goal remains the same:

Create environments that look incredible, function beautifully, and feel unmistakably personal.

That's the Nayoka Simone approach.

And after all these years, I'm still smiling because I get to do what I love—transforming spaces into experiences.
